Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between wage disparities, job security, and staff performance at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku. To guide the study, two research objectives, questions and hypotheses were formulated. Through survey research involving 234 staff members, the study explores the impact of these factors on organizational effectiveness and employee motivation. Data were obtained from both primary and secondary sources. From the primary sources, the survey method, that is the use of questionnaire were designed and adopted. Data obtained from this method were analyzed with the aid of Simple Percentage and Chi-square. Findings reveal a significant association between good wages and job performance, aligning with Herzberg's dissatisfier factors and Taylor & Taylor's assertions on the correlation between wages and performance. Similarly, job security emerges as a crucial motivator, echoing Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, particularly in satisfying the esteem need for security of tenure. The study underscores the importance of addressing these fundamental needs to foster a motivated and engaged workforce, ultimately contributing to organizational success. Recommendations include management's attention to adequate wages considering the high cost of living and ensuring job security for all staff, including the regularization of contract staff to boost motivation levels. By understanding and addressing these dynamics, organizational leaders can implement targeted strategies to optimize productivity, enhance job satisfaction, and cultivate a supportive work environment, thus achieving organizational goals effectively.
