Abstract

It is of the general understanding that maintenance of equipment, facility, and tools can help organizations achieve productive effectiveness and efficiency in marine industry. Yet, every organization has not seen maintenance as an operational activity whose deliberate and creative disruption in workplace processes would offer the expected profit and competitive advantage. It is contingent on this premise that the researcher seeks to ascertain how operations maintenance influences productive resilience of marine firms in Rivers State. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design, with the use of a structured questionnaire as primary source of data. The analytical technique adopted for the study was the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Co-efficient with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Service (SPSS) Version 25.00. The total population of the study was two thousand, three hundred and ninety (2390) staff drawn from the 29 marine firms in Rivers State, and a sample size of two hundred and fifty two (252) with the aid of stratified sampling technique. Findings from the three hypotheses analyzed further revealed that, there existed a strong positive correlation between variables studied. Therefore the needs for deliberate and creative disruption of work processes in order to implement a planned maintenance system is necessary to sustain uninterrupted operations rather than sudden failure of equipment and tools used for productive activities, which increases the potency of the studied firms to gain competitive edge and dominance in the industrial setting. Amongst the recommendation was that, a planned or proactive maintenance policy should be innovatively implemented.
